What is Feng Shui?
Feng Shui (风水, literally “wind-water”) is a 3,000-year-old Chinese system that studies how the flow of qi (energy) through space and time shapes the well-being of the people who live and work in it. Classical Feng Shui combines compass-based formulas — Flying Stars (Xuan Kong), Eight Mansions (Ba Zhai), and Bazi (Four Pillars of Destiny) — into a single analysis of a building and its occupants.
Is Feng Shui scientifically proven?
Feng Shui is not a natural science — it is an empirical tradition. Its core ideas (orientation, light, airflow, sightlines, and the psychological effects of color, material, and proportion) overlap meaningfully with modern environmental psychology and ergonomics. We treat it as a heritage system worth using for layout decisions, not as physics.
Do I need to believe in Feng Shui for it to work?
No belief is required. Many of Feng Shui’s recommendations are simply good design — putting your bed where you can see the door, keeping clutter out of high-traffic zones, and balancing color and material in a room. Use the parts that produce a calmer, more functional space and ignore the rest.
What is the difference between Flying Stars and Eight Mansions?
Flying Stars (Xuan Kong) is the chart of your house itself, based on when it was built and which way it faces. Eight Mansions (Ba Zhai) is the chart of you personally, based on your birth year and gender. They answer different questions and are designed to be used together: the house chart tells you which rooms hold which energy, and the personal chart tells you which directions are favorable for you.
What is Period 9 in Feng Shui?
Feng Shui divides time into 20-year periods governed by a different ruling star. We are currently in Period 9 (2024–2043), ruled by the 9 Purple Right Bow Star (Fire element). Period 9 favors fire-related industries, technology, fame and innovation, and shifts which directions are most auspicious for new construction and renovation.
